Mornin’/ZZZZZZ – (20″x16″ Oil on Canvas $250)

16" x 20" Oil on Canvas

Using what I was learning about glazing, I applied that to an oil painting. I love the way it picks up the light and gives the canvas a bit of “glow.” My little kolancho plant gives me hours of inspiration. I never knew of another plant that shows the intelligence of the universe so clearly.

While working on this piece, I often thought of my first husband who was a “morning person” – that is to say, 5 a.m., eyes popped open, zero to sixty in less than five seconds. Me, on the other hand, I may start to reach consciousness about mid-morning and only after a few cups of coffee.

Beautiful painting. You brought it to class once. Since white is opaque, how did you get it to shine so brilliantly?

    • Most oil paints dry somewhat muted and matt. You can mix glazes into your paint or add glazes on top of paint or varnish with a clear oil varnish after the painting has dried. I did the last one.
