Tiger, Tiger – (13″x13″ Framed, For Exhibit Only)

I love small projects – they are like my sketches. Generally smaller than a ten-inch square, I make them with Thinsulate as my batting so if it all goes south, I can still use them as pot holders! But seriously, small projects have big value in many ways.

They inspire confidence. It is easy to finish a small project and to know pretty quickly whether the  combination of thread, fabric and stitches will work to do what you want. If it comes together quickly as a small project, then you can be sure it will work as a larger project. This helps me decide if I want to put in the hours to reproduce this as a piece of art.

Small projects give me an idea of how the colors of thread I have work with different colors of fabrics, how much work will it take to carry an illusion. It’s easy to try several combinations of thread and fabric. Plus, I can experiment with different stitches and how I can make a brush-like texture that will further enhance the illusion I’m trying to give.
