I got a little sidetracked what with the painting class and the new floor. The Egret was coming along pretty quickly until then. I never thought it would be so hard to get back into it but I literally had to stare at it for three days before I could finish the thread painting. I tried a few experiments and took some chances with colors but in the end, I’m pleased with it. I must be getting braver, this seemed very small and I’m thinking I should go much larger next time.

I saw this character one day down by the Wells Branch pond. It seems that no matter what life and death drama these poor creatures endure on a daily basis, they always seem so at peace on the rare occasion they are just left to graze unmolested.

It is made by laying down bits of fabric which is then sandwiched with batting and backing. Then the whole thing is quilted with many colors of thread.

Color and color theory are very important to me and I chose cool blues, greens, greys and purples to convey the peace I felt looking at this creature. This piece should have a very calming effect on the environment.
